Why Does Finder Show Today's Date for My Photos?

Finder shows file dates by default, and a copied file gets today's date. The photo's own date is a different column.

Finder shows Date Created and Date Modified, which are file dates. Copying, unzipping or downloading a file sets them to now. So a photo from 2011 can honestly show today.

Finder can show the photo's own date instead. In a window, right-click the column headings and add Date Taken, or use the list view and sort by it. If that column is empty, the photo has no date inside it.

Takeout JSON Metadata Fixer writes the real date into the photo and onto the file, so Finder and Photos both show the same, correct day. It runs on your own computer and is free for your first 500 photos.
