Does Copying Photos Change the Date?
Copying changes the file's dates on most systems. It never changes the date stored inside the photo.
Copying usually resets the file's created date to now, and sometimes the modified date too. It depends on the operating system and the tool. This is why a freshly copied library so often looks like it was all shot today.
The date inside the photo is a different thing. Copying does not touch it. A photo with good EXIF sorts correctly no matter how many times it has been moved around.
