Takeout JSON

How Do I Import Google Takeout Into Lightroom?

Lightroom reads dates from inside the file. A Takeout export has none, so the catalogue comes out wrong unless you fix it first.

Lightroom builds its timeline from EXIF capture time. A Takeout export has that field empty, so every photo imports with the same date and the catalogue is useless for browsing by year.

Lightroom cannot read Google's .json files. They are Google's own format, not the XMP sidecars Lightroom understands. Importing the folder as-is gives you thousands of photos on one day.

Fix the files before you import. Takeout JSON Metadata Fixer writes the capture time and GPS into each photo, then Lightroom reads them normally and builds the right timeline. Free for your first 500 photos.
