How Long Does Google Takeout Take?

It depends on the size. A few thousand photos can be ready in an hour or two. A library of hundreds of thousands can take several days. Google builds the archive on its own servers and emails you when it is done.
You do not have to keep the page open, and closing your laptop does not cancel it. The download links expire after about a week, so watch for the email rather than the browser.
