How Do I Fix Dates on Photos Downloaded From Instagram?

Instagram removes photo metadata on upload. Here is what the export gives you instead.

Instagram strips EXIF from everything you post. Downloading your data gives you the pictures back, but without the capture date or the location they had on your phone.

The export does include a .json file listing when each post was made. That is the posting date, not the shooting date, but for most people they are within a day or two of each other.

If you want those photos to sit in the right year, you need a date written into each file. Takeout JSON Metadata Fixer can apply a date to a whole folder in one go, so a year's worth of posts lands where it belongs.
