Why Do My Scanned Photos Have the Wrong Date?
A scan is a new file. Its date is the day you scanned it, not the day the picture was taken.
A scanner creates a brand new image file today. There is nothing in the paper photograph for it to read, so the only date it can record is now. A 1974 wedding photo scans as a 2026 file.
That is correct behaviour and also completely useless for sorting. Mixed with your digital photos, every scan piles up at the end of the library.
You have to supply the date yourself, even if it is only the year. Takeout JSON Metadata Fixer can write a date you choose into a whole folder at once. It runs on your own computer and is free for your first 500 photos.
