Why Are All My Photos Dated Today?

Every photo showing today's date means the date inside the file is missing. Here is why that happens and how to get the real dates back.

Because the date inside the photo is missing, so your computer falls back on the only date it has: the day the file landed on your disk. That was today. The photo is not new. Its date is simply blank.

Counts at the end, including anything it could not do

This happens most often after a Google Takeout download, because Google keeps the real date in a separate .json file instead of inside the picture. It also happens after a phone transfer, a WhatsApp save, or a download from a web album.

The real dates are usually still there, in those .json files or in the photos themselves. Takeout JSON Metadata Fixer reads them and writes the correct date back into every photo in one run. It runs on your own computer and is free for your first 500 photos.
