How Do I Fix Photo Dates on Windows 11?

What Windows can do on its own, where it stops, and what to use instead.

Windows can edit one photo's date. Right-click, Properties, Details, click the Date Taken value and type. Selecting several files and editing them together sets them all to the same date, which is rarely what you want.

What Windows cannot do is read Google's .json files. It has no idea they exist, so a Takeout export stays undated no matter how long you spend in Explorer.

Takeout JSON Metadata Fixer reads the sidecars and writes each real date into each photo, then Explorer's Date Taken column fills in by itself. There is a Microsoft Store version and a direct download.
